01 / WHY UNDERSTANDING MATTERS

The balance is there.
But you cannot withdraw it.
Or send it.

Having money and being able to use it when you need it are not always the same thing.

That is why it helps to understand how different financial services work and who manages your money.

There is more to understand than where you keep your money.

Bank deposits, crypto exchanges and self-custody wallets work differently. Who manages them, how you use them and what you need to know all vary.

PROJECT COMPASS starts with those differences, then guides you through the basics of wallet setup, sending, receiving and backups with hands-on practice.

Using a wallet will not lift a bank withdrawal restriction. Nor does it guarantee that you can send funds or make payments in every situation.

02 / WALLET SKILLS

Turn understanding into practice.
Learn to check and operate things yourself.

Wallet Skills / Practical wallet education

Understanding custody is the starting point. With Wallet Skills, you can ask questions and try the steps yourself, rather than simply listen to an explanation.

Understand exchange custody and self-custody.

Practise the checks to make before sending and receiving.

Understand how backups and recovery work.

Ask questions and work through anything that is unclear.

“What is a network?”→ Learn what to check before a transfer.

“What if I lose my device?”→ Understand the link between backups and recovery.

02 / A REAL EXAMPLE

This has happened
in other countries.

Lebanon Crisis from 2019 onward / World Bank report published in 2024

Banking crises overseas have led to withdrawal restrictions, leaving people unable to freely use money they needed. In Lebanon, access to foreign-currency deposits was restricted.

The crisis involved more than access restrictions: it also brought banking-sector losses and a sharp fall in the currency’s value.“Can I withdraw it?” and “How much value remains?” are related but distinct questions.

Japan has different institutions and circumstances. This example is not a prediction that the same events will happen in Japan.

World Bank: Lebanon — A Systematic Country Diagnostic (August 2024; executive summary and banking sector) ↗ Source checked: October 30, 2026

The aim is not to predict a crisis, but to understand
the systems you rely on to use your money.
03 / UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE

Banks. Exchanges. Wallets.
A similar balance display. Different systems.

Who manages the assets, how can you use them, and what responsibilities do you have? Start with these three differences.

01

Bank deposits

A system for depositing and withdrawing money through a bank.

Depositors have a claim against the bank for repayment of their deposits. In Japan, eligible deposits are protected by the deposit insurance system.

Access depends on the bank’s services and procedures.

See protections and limitations
Who manages it?
You have a claim against the bank for repayment of your deposit. The bank manages the account and the withdrawal process.
How do access and transfers work?
You use the bank’s systems and procedures, subject to its operating hours and transaction terms.
What if something goes wrong?
Contact the bank first. A temporary service outage and a bank failure are different issues.
What responsibilities and limitations matter?
In Japan, eligible general deposits are protected up to ¥10 million in principal per depositor, per financial institution, plus eligible interest accrued up to the date of failure. Eligible payment and settlement deposits are fully protected if they meet all three requirements: they bear no interest, are payable on demand and provide payment or settlement services. Foreign-currency deposits and certain other deposits are excluded. This protection does not guarantee immediate access at all times.

02

Crypto exchanges

A service for holding and trading crypto through a provider.

Trading and withdrawals depend on the exchange’s systems and procedures.

Customer rights and asset protections vary by country, provider and contract.

See custody arrangements and limitations
Who manages it?
In a custodial service, the provider manages crypto assets and private keys on behalf of its customers.
How do access and transfers work?
Withdrawals depend on the provider’s procedures and systems, including withdrawal requests and identity checks. Maintenance and other events can interrupt withdrawals.
What if something goes wrong?
Contact the provider. Customer rights and protections depend on the country, service and contract.
What responsibilities and limitations matter?
Registered providers in Japan are subject to requirements such as segregation of customer assets. However, crypto assets are not covered by bank deposit insurance. An outage or withdrawal suspension should not be treated as the same thing as insolvency or permanent loss.

03

Self-custody wallets

You manage the private keys and authorise crypto transfers yourself.

You can operate a wallet without entrusting your private keys to an exchange. You also take responsibility for backups and precautions against transfer mistakes.

Self-custody alone cannot solve every problem, including network outages or restrictions imposed by services you use.

See self-custody responsibilities and risks
Who manages it?
You manage your private keys and sign transactions. A wallet is a tool for interacting with assets recorded on a blockchain.
How do access and transfers work?
You authorise transactions using your device and wallet, and the supported network processes them. Fees and network congestion can affect transactions.
What if something goes wrong?
Recovery may be possible with a compatible backup. If you lose your private keys or backup, a support desk may be unable to recover access.
What responsibilities and limitations matter?
You take on greater responsibility for loss, theft and mistaken transfers. Legal rights and the technical ability to operate with a key are different things. Network, device, issuer, conversion and payment-acceptance risks remain.

The aim is not to find an option that is “completely safe,” but to understand the differences and make your own decisions.

This is not a recommendation to move your bank savings into crypto.

04 / A SMALL TEACHING SAMPLE

For example: what to check before you send.

The same crypto asset can exist on different networks. Before pressing Send, work through what needs to be checked.

10 / QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask for a consultation if I do not own crypto?

Yes. You do not need to own or buy crypto for the free consultation. We discuss what you want to learn before confirming any preparation needed for a lesson.

How is the free consultation different from the paid lesson?

The free 15-minute consultation covers your experience, questions and the lesson’s scope. It does not include setup or hands-on practice. The paid Wallet Skills lesson includes six learning stages and guided individual practice.

What do I need to prepare?

You provide your own devices, any necessary hardware and crypto for practice. We confirm supported equipment, services and costs before you book. You do not need to send secret information over LINE.

Is the lesson suitable for beginners?

We start with the basics and adjust explanations to your understanding. Repeated questions are welcome. The consultation helps establish your goals and preparation needs. We do not guarantee that you will master every skill within five hours.

Do I hand over my assets or recovery phrase?

No. You keep control of your devices, assets, PINs, passwords, private keys and recovery phrases, and do not show secret information to the instructor. The instructor does not hold your assets or operate or authorise transactions for you. Recovery demonstrations use a demonstration wallet.

Does self-custody make everything safe?

No. Lost or stolen keys or backups, scams and mistaken transfers can lead to losses. Network and device dependencies, conversion and payment acceptance also remain relevant. We explain the trade-offs of both exchange custody and self-custody.

Will you recommend which crypto to buy or when to trade?

This is an educational service about how systems work and how to use them. We do not provide individual buy or sell instructions, asset-allocation recommendations, trading signals, investment management or guarantees of profit.

What about follow-up questions or cancellations?

Please confirm follow-up arrangements, booking and cancellation conditions over LINE before you book. Requesting a free consultation does not create a paid lesson contract.
